Pink- Dear Mr. President

Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me.
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?
Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We're not dumb and we're not blind.
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.
What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh
How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You'd never take a walk with me.
Would you?

The lyrics of this song talk about the problems America has with homosexuality, wars, the homeless and minorities. The message that Pink is trying to send to the President is that he needs to help the struggling people of America and treat every person equal. The fact that these are still major issues in America today, makes Pink question the President's confidence. How could he live with himself if he knows that thousands of people are struggling in the country he promised to make a better place? I think that everything Pink is saying in these lyrics is realistic because some people face these problems in America daily.

  1. First off, I love this song. Its such a deep song.
Second, I completely agree with you. Does the president have enough confidence to deal with these issus? I don't think anyone in this contry does.

  2. Oh my, this is so negative, I love it!

I'm sure, however that Obama, being the smart, cunning president he is (haha, I'm such a suck-up) will do the right thing. In a few years, this song will make no sense.

  5. I really like this song!!! Good Choice:)
This songs talks about alot of negative things but they are all true. It's sad that are president thinks he is better than all of us. Doesnt "ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL.." mean that even the president is eqaul to us not higher and better.

  7. I understand her point of view about the president sitting up higher then the rest of us. I believe this was written about Bush (I think). Obama appears to be closer to our level for now.
