A Society Based on Equality
If I had to make a society where everyone was equal, I would not reduce people's abilities or capabilities, especially the ones who are more advanced, intellectual, athletic, etc. In the story Harrison Bergeron, George was an advanced thinker and more intellectual, therefore, he had a mental handicap radio, I would never do that. Instead, I would raise the abilities and capabilities of the people who are lagging in society or are not considered "advanced." That way, everyone would be equal, whether it is sports, thinking, etc. To do that, I would increase athletic institutions, where people could accomplish things they never thought they could, it would be a place where everyone could increase their athletic ability. I might also increase educational institutions, for further studying and education with advanced technology. Perhaps, the poor will recieve free education and learning as well. Also, every poor person will recieve a computer, which will increase their awarness in the world as well as increase knowledge. People will be pushed to do their best and to accomplish goals they thought they could never achieve. For taxes, I would make sure that a fair amount of percentage was taken from the rich and a fair amount from the poor, this will probably be decided by the government. Health and well-being should be provided to everone, including the poor, and everyone deserves life insurance. This is the way I would run my society if it were to be made equal.
