The men have come back to the front, and have to lay barbed wire. Himmelstoss has to come to the front, to serve as punishment for the harsh treatment towards the recruits. Paul gets trapped in a graveyard with shells exploding all around him, and is lucky to be alive. The men later speculate about what it would be like once the war ends, and talk about what they'll do once it's over. And I agree with Dan this book is really boring, it's definitely not "The Greatest War Novel of All Time."
