Reading Response 1-6

1. Paul is in the second company and half the soldiers died in the first battle. Paul and his friends are talking and wondering how they got suckered into the war with all the propaganda.

2. The soldiers dont remember what home is like and they have nothing to go back to. Muller feels guilty about taking Kemmerichs boots because Kem is dying. In the end, Kem gives his boots to Muller anyways. Paul is sad that Kem is dead but he's happy that he has been able to survive this whole time.

3.more young soldiers join the combat team because all the older men are dying in the war. The youngins quickly die because of lack of training. Kat gets into a debate with kropp about the war. The boys talk about how pointless training is. Tj wets his bed, but hes told to sleep in his wet bed anyways. Himmelstoss beats up Tj.

5. There is a nasty outbreak of lice. Himmelstoss is punished for his mistreatment of TJ. Paul and Kat catch a goose. Himmelstoss and TJ have to deal with their fighting.

6. Life seems pointless as death is emminent. The boys attack rats that eat their food. The men are running out of food and cant leave beacause of bombing. There are too many dead soldiers...
