Jim Crow

When I read the Jim Crow article, I was very disappointed and I think it was very wrong and horrible to segregate the blacks from the whites. The laws of Jim Crow were very harsh, such as not being able to drink from a white's water fountain, with consequences of risking their homes and jobs. I don't think that there was a need for any racial segregation. They should have been ashamed of themselves to do such a thing in what they thought of as "a way of life." A part of the article I thought was very unfair was "lynching." Many blacks were falsely accused, but it gave the whites a tool to use to keep the Blacks with their "freedom." It was mainly used for white domination, attacking properties of the Black community, bring fears and terror in to the blacks. Most of the laws of Jim Crow tries to tell is that the blacks are not as good as the whites, and they are just poor and serve as workers. This can be shown by some of the laws enacted, such as sitting in the back seat of a truck and not being able to eat with the whites. All the laws put against the blacks were very unfair and I don't know how life could have been with the blacks and whites segregated. They obviously didn't appreciate the blacks for who they were just because of their skin color and their belief that they were "made to be servants." Even though the blacks had suffered so much from this "racial caste system," Jim Crow, they managed to climb back up in the end to declare their rights and to diminish segregation and discrimination, with their courage and bravery.

  1. I agree with you, I was sort of disappointed by the state that the Blacks were in, I was also shocked. The Whites could have figured out another solution to keep the Blacks their "freedom. There also should have been some government involvement or a mob suppression so that many Blacks would have not been killed. "If there is a will, there is a way."
